Mass Communication students of Abuja-based universities- Nile University and Baze University benefited from solution journalism training organised by Zubaida Ibrahim of HumAngle Media. The virtual seminar for the 21 early career journalists took participants through steps on doing impactful stories.

The training explained the difference between regular news writing that focuses on the ‘who, what, where, why, when and how’ while solution journalism critically expands these issues with an attempt at problem-solving. The trainer also enumerated the advantages of solution journalism and its ability to accelerate the career of female journalists. The convener and resource persons noted the importance of creating a specialised path for female student journalists.

Another resource person, Chinonso Kenneth, publisher of the Solutions Paper, volunteered to mentor the 21 students. He also promised to make his platform available to student journalists with stories to publish.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim has opened a WhatsApp group for these students to easily share story ideas and provide a platform for engagement when they need assistance or resources in their journalism career.
