The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation with programmes aimed at exposing corruption, regulatory failures and human rights abuses with the tool of investigative journalism. The initiative started in 2005 under the name Wole Soyinka Investigative Reporting Award (WSIRA). The Centre is named after Professor Wole Soyinka in recognition of his life-long work in support of the freedom of expression, freedom to hold opinion, and freedom to impart them without fear or favour and without hindrance or interference. The Centre is based in Lagos with a wide reach of media organisations it works with across the country. It core activities include media engagement on various issues, thematic trainings, media monitoring, resource development and award making on investigative reporting. Motunrayo Alaka, the Execuitive Director/CEO of WSCIJ, serves as the Programme Director for FRLP.

Free Press Unlimited is a foundation based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with media projects in 39 countries around the world. Free Press Unlimited believes that objective information can be of life-and-death importance. The foundation helps local journalists in war zones and conflict areas to provide their audience with trustworthy news and information.

Free Press Unlimited manages a varying number of projects, including the protection of journalists, training for media professionals and journalists, conflict reporting and a platform for minority perspectives. Free Press Unlimited has a wide geographical reach covering Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Bethel Tsegaye, the Free Press Unlimited Program Coordinator is the representative of FPU on the programme.

The Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) now, Open Society Foundation (OSF) Africa, is a donor organisation that promotes robust societies where democracy, good governance, the rule of law, human rights and widespread civic participation are vibrant. OSIWA believes that active citizen participation is the cornerstone of democracy, it supports many civil society communities and organisations to achieve this through grants, advocacy, litigation, partnership building, knowledge generation/research, and technical assistance regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or disability, or sexual identity.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was launched in 2000 by Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates to support gender equality, enhance global healthcare and reduce extreme poverty across the world while improving educational opportunities and access to information technology. Since its launch, the foundation has endowed and supported a broad range of social, health, and education developments in more than 140 countries across Africa, North America, Asia, Europe, and other continents. According to its 2021 report, the foundation spent $6.7 billion on charitable support across 41 programme strategies globally.
