For her 2025 FRLP Leadership project, Mary Agidi, Features and Opinion Writer, titled: “Leveraging Digital Tools to Boost Professional Performance and Unlock Career Development Opportunities.” Mary’s mission was clear, to equip female journalists in Ondo State with the digital skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing media landscape. With support from the chapel coordinators of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State chapter, Mary brought together 43 women, a mix of practicing journalists and female campus reporters on internship at her media house, The Hope Newspaper, for an intensive training. Participants were introduced to a range of digital tools—Google Workspace, editing software, and transcription platforms, all carefully selected to reduce newsroom stress and increase productivity.
The impact was immediate. Many of the women have now adopted digital editing tools in their day-to-day work. Some began exploring new career paths and training opportunities that had previously felt out of reach. To sustain the progress, Agidi would continue to engage with the journalists through WhatsApp group discussions and one-on-one mentoring.
