A Senior Correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria, Aisha Gambo, trained 45 Mass Communication students (9 males and 36 females) at Kaduna State University (KASU) on Solutions Journalism (SOJO). The training focused on helping students carefully identify responses in their communities and begin reporting on them while still in school.

She engaged Nathaniel Bivan, a Solutions and Conflict Journalist, and Yahuza Bawage, a solutions Journalist who started practicing journalism while in higher education. Bivan guided the students on how to find and report compelling solution stories, explaining that a good solution story must include the four pillars of solutions journalism: response, evidence, insight, and limitation. Bawage, on his part, encouraged the students to start writing early to build a portfolio that would attract opportunities after graduation.

Describing the training as an eye-opener to the students, who promised to share the knowledge gained with other colleagues in the department. To sustain this initiative, Gambo will ensure continued mentorship and re-training of these students.
