The six reporters selected for the leadership project implementation under the Report Women! News and Newsroom Engagement project held the following training across the country on mobile journalism, SGBV reportage, FGM reportage, gender lens reportage, and safety and prevention tips for female reporters.
A virtual training on the fundamentals of effective Female Genital Mutilation was led by Osaruonamen Ibizugbe for 12 reporters in Abuja and Abimbola Adegboyega trained 34 female reporters and students of journalism in Ado-Ekiti on the pros and cons of SGBV reporting. Titilope Fadare conducted a physical training on mobile journalism for 13 full-time journalists and freelancers in Abuja while Khadija Ishaq Bawas held a physical one-day training on radio news reportage through the gender lens for 30 young female journalists across Kano State.
Finally, Bassey Ita Ikpang, held a training workshop for 41 reporters and newsroom managers in Abuja to equip female reporters and sensitise newsroom leaders on female reporters’ safety and prevention of gender and sexual based- attacks as they navigate the newsroom and field work while Nkechi Macaulay trained 18 female reporters virtually from select journalism associations such as Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Wana Data, Report Women, Lagos Journalist Association (LJA), Female Guild of Journalists, Nigerian Union Journalists (NUJ) on the tools of virtual newsroom technology.
