She was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2003 to represent Lagos Island (I) Constituency. She won re-election in 2007 and 2011.<\/p>\n<p>At the National Assembly, she was the Chairman of the committee on Public Procurement, Committee on Prisons and a member of committees on Banking and Currency, Diaspora, Niger Delta and Women in parliament.<\/p>\n<p>She is very keen on the Social Development of Women and Children and, as a legislator, sponsored a bill on the compulsory breastfeeding of babies in 2013. However, the bill failed because the lawmakers insisted \u201cno woman has to be forced to breastfeed her child\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Okoya-Thomas was at the forefront of the mobilisation of the women in the state for the second term campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari and the election of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Analysis of Okoya-Thomas\u2019 skills: She is skillful in community mobilization and possesses the techniques to help facilitation awareness of gender, political and other issues.
