She began her political career in 1999, representing the Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole constituency of Osun State in the House of Representatives. Initially elected under the Alliance for Democracy (AD), she later joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003, securing re-election.

Her most notable political achievement came in June 2007, when she made history as the first and only woman to serve as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, a position she held until October of the same year.
