Heading the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as Director General is Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye. She is an Emeritus Professor of Pharmaceutics and Drug Product Evaluation at Roosevelt University’s College of Pharmacy in Schaumburg, Illinois, in the United States.
In order to promote research involving herbal practitioners and university researchers while the intellectual property is maintained, she established the Nigerian Herbal Medicine Product Committee.
The ultimate goal is to develop complementary and alternative treatments into marketable goods that are governed by regulations and supported by research.
She served as a Senior Fulbright Scholar/Specialist, Professor of Pharmaceutics and Manufacturing for 21 years at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the United States, and the first African Woman Fellow in 2008.
Under her belt are five patents, 65 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and books, and more than 140 scientific presentations. Prof. Adeyeye is currently the chair of the steering committees for the WHO-based Global Paediatric Regulatory Network and the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonisation.
