Evelyn Usman holds a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages from the Ambrose Alli University,Ekpoma, Edo State and Masters Degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Lagos State University.

Evelyn covers Crime and Defence beats and has over 3000 human interest and security related stories published since she started reporting two decades ago.
Some of her write-ups initiated government policies. One of them was on the plight of ‘ Pensioners turned beggars’, which formed a topic of discourse at the House of Representatives in 2005 and consequently resulted in the increment of allocation to the Pension office, to ameliorate the sufferings of pensioners.
She has embarked on sea operation exercises between the Nigerian Navy and various navies of the world , both at home and abroad.
In her quest for knowledge, Evelyn has attended several courses and trainings which included training and service of over 1,500 dignitaries and guests on the occasion of the historic visit of former President of the United States of America, Mr. Williams Jefferson Clinton, to Nigeria, in August 2000.
Evelyn is the first female to emerge Vice President of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, since inception 30 years ago.
She was among the ten Nigerian journalists trained by Expertise France in Ghana in 2022.
Her project on Human Trafficking and Cyber Crime in West Africa was announced winner and only Nigerian journalist selected for mentoring by the Thierry Leclère, the co-facilitator working with French-speaking journalists, this year (2023).
