Career & Expertise

A molecular biologist, Dr. Adeola Olukosi is interested in the diagnosis, molecular epidemiology, and vectors of drug-resistant malaria and insecticide-resistant malaria.

She has been with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) since 1995. She formerly held the position of Trainee Biotechnologist at the Institute of Occupational Health in Finland from January to June 1992, and picked up a post-doctoral position at the MRC Gambia from April to November 2010.

Her background in biochemistry, biotechnology, and public health (epidemiology) has given her the opportunity to take part in a number of molecular epidemiology-based studies, such as the prenatal diagnosis of mothers who run the risk of having sickle cell babies and the characterization of molecular markers of infectious diseases, particularly malaria.

Skills Utilisation

She has made contributions in the areas of long-lasting insecticidal net intervention studies, diagnostic performance of malaria detection methods, and several consultancies to support the National Malaria Elimination Programme. She also continues to provide technical support for some of their task teams.

Dr. Olukosi alternates serving as the Malaria Research Group’s leader and the Deputy Director of Research.
