Dame Virginia Etiaba obtained a National Certificate of Education in Gombe, Bachelor of Education and a certificate in Information Technology.

Career & Expertise

She worked for 35 years as a teacher and headed several schools in Kafanchan, Aba, Port Harcourt, and Nnewi. She retired from the services of the Anambra State Government in 1991 and founded the Bennet Etiaba Memorial Schools, Nnewi, of which she was the proprietress.

In March 2006, she became the Deputy Governor of Anambra State alongside former Governor Peter Obi. But when he was impeached, she took over, making her the first female governor in Nigeria from November 2006 to February 2007. When the Appeal Court nullified Obi’s impeachment, she transferred her powers back to Obi three months later.

Skills Utilisation

She possesses effective leadership skills and capacity, which contributed immensely to the successful administration of Mr. Peter Obi. She can mentor and coach women on how to be an effective leader.
