Maiden Alex Ibru received her elementary education at the Children’s Home School in Ibadan and completed her secondary education at Queen’s School, Ede. Maiden Ibru pursued higher education at the University of Ibadan, where she earned a combined honours degree in English and Theatre Studies in 1972. She furthered her studies at the American University in Washington D.C., obtaining a Master’s degree in Communications and Media Studies in 1974.

Maiden Alex Ibru is a prominent Nigerian media executive and newspaper proprietor. She is the wife of the late Chief Alex Ibru, who was the founder and Chairman of Guardian Press Limited, the holding company of Guardian Newspapers, established in 1983. Following her husband’s passing on 20 November 2011, Maiden Ibru was appointed as the Chairman of Guardian Press Limited in 2019, subsequently becoming the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of The Guardian.
With over a decade of experience, Maiden Ibru served as the Chief Executive Officer of Guardian Press Limited for 11 years before her current role. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing the mission of Guardian Newspapers.
In addition to her media career, Maiden Ibru is a director of the Trinity Foundation, a philanthropic organization founded by her late husband, which supports institutions and civil society organisations that promote democratic principles and open society.
