Ijeoma Nwogwugwu is a distinguished Nigerian journalist and media executive with an illustrious career spanning over two decades. She is the pioneer managing director of Arise TV, a prominent Nigerian news outlet, and served as an editor at THISDAY newspaper. Nwogwugwu made history as the second woman to be appointed editor of a national newspaper in Nigeria, following Doyin Abiola. Nwogwugwu’s ascent in journalism began when she became the editor of THISDAY newspaper in 2012, succeeding Simon Kolawole. Under her leadership, the paper flourished, and she became the only editor to manage the Saturday, Sunday, and daily editions simultaneously.

In 2018, she was appointed to lead the Arise News Channel, where her vision and influence in the media landscape became more pronounced. Her contributions earned her accolades, including recognition as one of the twenty-five most powerful women in journalism by Women in Journalism Africa in 2018 and as one of the Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Nigerian Media in 2020. Nwogwugwu’s extensive experience includes her tenure as Group Business Editor of THISDAY Newspapers, where she managed Nigeria’s most influential newspaper, overseeing a significant editorial team that provided business, financial, and economic content.

She has also held key positions in the private sector, including with Merchant Bank for Africa and the Bureau of Public Enterprises, where she was instrumental in the privatisation of state-run enterprises in the media industry.
