Lydia Umar is a recognized authority on gender issues, and human and women’s rights, as well as an advocate for good governance, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, training, development, and research. With a background in Curriculum (Social) Studies, she has dedicated over three decades to lecturing.
In 2000, Lydia co-founded the Gender Awareness Trust (GAT) to advance peace and gender equity. She has played multifaceted roles in conflict management, mediation, and peacebuilding, serving as a practitioner, trainer, researcher, and coordinator for governmental bodies and development partners.
Her expertise extends to conduct gender training and audits for UN agencies, and she has served as the Gender Adviser for the Humanitarian Centre on Community Dialogue in Geneva, focusing particularly on Kaduna State. Lydia has also contributed significantly as a technical expert to numerous peace-building initiatives, both locally in Kaduna State, Nigeria, and internationally.
