Onyewuchi is a Professor of Crop Science and Technology, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, with a PhD obtained from the University of Ibadan in 2008. She was Associate Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology between 2013 and 2015, and is currently Head of Department, Crop Science and Technology since 2017.

She is currently researching the use of plant extracts and cultural control methods to control plant diseases of field crops.
