She obtained her professional training, and consequently, Teachers’ Grade Two Certificate (TCII) in 1971 at St. Mark’s College, Nibo/Nise, Awka; subsequently, Bachelor of Education (B.ED) (Principles and Methods of Education) Second Class Honours Upper Division in 1987; two Masters Degree Certificates in Childhood Education (Sandwich and Regular Programmes) in 1990 and 1996 respectively; and Ph.D in Childhood Education in 2001, all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Career & Expertise

Chukwu is a Professor of Childhood Education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

She has served within the university as coordinator of the childhood education unit, staff adviser, Faculty of Education Students’ Association, and supervisor, Department of Education Environmental Committee on Environment. 

She has published many research papers in International and National Journals and has presented many papers at conferences. She has supervised twenty-nine Ph.D students. Chukwu belongs to many professional organisations including Organisation Mondiale pour l’Education Prescolaire (OMEP), Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI), Nigeria Chapter.

Skills Utilisation

Chukwu’s research interest extends across Pre-primary and Primary Education issues – curriculum, teacher competencies and perceptions, learning environment, strategies in learning, and appraisal of the National documents’ implementation, among others. She will be a good source on issues around childhood learning, teaching, and administration.
